Gordes

Discover this city from our hotel

Just 8 km from the Hotel La Clé des Champs, Gordes is the very definition of the Provençal hilltop village. It is listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”. Its white or grey dry-stone houses curve around the rock on which the village stands, with the church and château facing the Luberon hills at the top.
The Renaissance château, rebuilt by Bertrand de Simiane on the site of a 12th century fortress, occupies the peak.

Wandering its small cobbled streets winding between the tall houses of the village, whichever way you turn you’ll spot lovely old doors, fountains, vaults and flat-stone walls, all lovingly restored. Then from a terrace, enjoy a sumptuous view over the valley and mountains of the Luberon.

Just a few kilometres away, the Village des Bories is a hamlet that now stands as a museum about rural habitations. Twenty restored “bories” (huts) between 200 and 500 years old are arranged around a bread oven. They were occupied until the beginning of the 19th century.
